18 Sep / Gluten-free, Vegan Chocolate Chip Cookies

I love cookies. And if I have any in my house I’m sure to eat them ALL. Which is why I only bake batches for loved ones or when I can give them away (after eating 4 or 5, of course). Check out this updated recipe that is now vegan. Woohoo! As an adjustment, you can add gluten-free oats. Makes a very hearty cookie.

Gluten/Dairy/Refined Sugar-Free Chocolate Chip Cookies

1.5 c white rice flour
1 c tapioca flour
1/2 t salt
1/2 t baking powder
1 t xanthan gum
1/2 c canola oil
1/2 c agave nectar
1 c dark chocolate chips

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Mix all ingredients together in a large bowl, adding chocolate chips at the very end. Spray baking sheet with canola oil or other spray. Scoop medium sized dough balls onto cookie sheet. Flatten with a fork or spoon. Bake for 10 minutes or until golden brown.

Did you really mean to use 1 cup of oil here? My batch was dripping with oil. I thought a cup was far too much but after checking your site again that is what it said. All I can taste is the oil.

    Hi Jackie,

Thanks for asking! Mine had the opposite affect and sometimes I have to add water if there isn’t enough moisture. If you are finding that 1 cup is too much canola oil – you can do 1/2 c oil and then add water as you mix until you get the right consistency.

Are you using rice and tapioca flour? Flour consistency can play a roll as can the moisture in the air where you live! :)

Keep me posted and feel free to share what worked for you.

Sorry, I wanted so badly for these cookies to turn out but like the other reader stated – far too oily! I was sad to throw the entire batch out. I ended up using an old-fashioned choco cookie recipe – substituting rice and tapioca flour for wheat flour, Earth Balance vegan stick for butter, organic brown sugar, EnerG egg substitute for egg, and dairy free choco chips-they were delish! Love your green smoothie recipe though…I drink it every day…thanks!

    Thanks for sharing!
Cut the oil down by half and you’ll be good to go. Your creation sounds lovely as well.

Thanks for reading and cooking and sharing!

I made these cookies this morning. I did not flatten them because I was not sure if they would spread. They did not, but they taste great. I will definitely be making them again. Thanks.

Thank you so much for this recipe — it was a little savior for me! I don’t eat wheat, gluten, eggs or dairy, so finding something to bake that I enjoyed has been a challenge, until now! My husband who’s diet is not as restricted as mine and can enjoy any ol’ cookie he wants, absolutely loved these…. he is quite the cookie connoisseur :)

I’m so glad you love it! I am a HUGE cookie connoisseur – so I had to find a way to eat healthy cookies. :)

Look forward to seeing you more on the blog!

why did my cookies come out so gummy? I was so looking forward to these… what did I do wrong? I did add some water b/c the dough was dry and crumbly… and I also made a note to myself to use less chocolate chips next time – but they did not come out right, regardless. Help?
